Art Classes For Children

Art After School Grades K-3

Wednesdays 3:30-4:30pm, 12 sessions starting September 15th
A fun-fulled weekly session of art explroation for kids. Painting, drawing and sculpture are some of the techniques children will experiment with in this hands on class.
Fee: $200 materials included

Art After School Grades 4-6

Thursdays 3:30-5pm, 12 sessions starting September 16th
A fun-fulled weekly session of art explroation. Clay handbuilding, drawing, and painting techniques will be introduced through fun projects to increase art skills and appreciation.

Portfolio Class 7-12

Tuesdays 3:30-5pm, 12 sessions staritng September 14th
This class will give students the chance to explore a variety of art techniques and tools in-depth, expanding their range of expression. Clay, oils, watercolor, and fresco will be taught over the course of the year, helping students prepare portfolios for college admission.

Clayworks for Kids K-8

Saturday Mornings, 10-11:30 12 sessions starting September 18th
Students will learn the basic construction techniques for making clay forms. From pinch pots, coil, and basic clay techniques, to tiles, slab and hand-building students will have 12 weeks of hands-on fun.

Classes For Adults and Advanced Teens:

Clayworks 1 & 2
Instructor: Louise Neal
Wednesdays 3-5pm, 6 sessions starting September 15th and October 27th
Saturdays Noon-2pm 6 sessions starting September 18th and October 30th
Learn hand building pinch, coil, slab, and drape techniques for producing clay vessel forms. Students will learn construction and surface texture techniques. Possible forms include whistles, pinch pot, coiled container, slab box with lid and feet, slabs of clay draped over molds. No previous experience with clay necessary. Repeating students will learn the basics of throwing pottery on the wheel.
Fee: $125 plus materials and kiln fee
Perspective Drawing
Thursdays 6:30-7:30 p.m. 6 sessions starting September 16th

How do you create real depth and dimension in a mural, drawing or painting? Mainly through the techniques of perspective. Learn the basics of one-point, two-point and multi-point perspective. Give your work a sense of space and 3-dimensionality while learning to properly place people and objects in your work.

Watercolor Still Life/ Landscapes
Thursdays 5:30-6:30 p.m. 6 Sessions starting September 16th

Explore the watercolor medium indoors and out. Learn to create a painting while working on various still-life compositions moving outdoors in good weather. Layout, composition, and various brush techniques will be discussed. Students should bring a number 16 round brush, No. 2 pencil and an 8x10 in block of watercolor paper.

Elements of Traditional Oil Painting

Saturday mornings 10am-noon 6 Sessions starting September 18th and October 30th
This ongoing session is open to both new and returning students of all levels. The class will teach the fundamentals of representational oil painting such as light and shadow, values, color, edges, materials and techniques. Participants will create a still life painting designed to teach these fundamentals, which apply to all types of representational oil painting. Students who are able to complete the project satisfactorily may do a second project agreed upon with the instructor.

Drawing for Adults

Start with the essentials and learn to draw. Whether designing a painting, a sculpture, or jewelry, drawing is the skill that is essential to artmaking. Composition, form, mass, contour...learn the elements of 2-D design.

Life Drawing
Monday Evenings 6:30-9:00 12 sessions starting September 13th
An open session for beginners or professionals looking to practice their figure drawing technique with professional models and plenty of space. Work from a variety of poses from 1 minute to 45 minutes. Bring your newsprint and charcoal and get back in drawing shape!

Sculpture

Working in water-based clay students will learn about modeling forms in both 3 dimensions, and bas relief. Molding, casting and firing finished works will also be discussed.

Creative Knitting/Crochet

Join us for an evening of creative fun, this is NOT your grandmom’s knitting circle! Everything you wanted to know about the latest in creative fibers. From bamboo, soy, and organic fibers to traditional yarns learn the “little extras” that will make your next project more elegant.
Fee: $10 walk-in or $48 for 6 sessions

A series of one, two and five-day intensives in the Fine Arts allow you to get the essentials without a long-term time commitment. Taught by Professional Staff, these classes are designed to teach you what you need to know to beautify your surroundings.

Fresco Painting

This class will initiate and educate artists of all levels in the ancient art of fresco. The oldest form of painting, fresco has an unrivaled luminosity and permanence. Working on portable panels, students will learn all aspects of the technique from preparing the plaster to applying the pigments.

Trompe l’oeil Painting

“Fooling the eye” in French, explore the secrets of creating 3-dimensional effects on a 2 dimensional wall. A perfect addition to the skills of the decorative painter, students will execute small vignettes of still life, moldings, and objects using shading and highlighting techniques.

Mural Painting I

Study the mural process from design, layout, and execution to installation. Students will create a small mural on canvas and learn to install it on a wall in a professional manner. Each will be taught to work quickly, and efficiently using the tools of the trade. All levels welcome.

Spinning Workshop

Two days of quiet creativity and relaxing “zen” moments. Stress is left at the door of this class as you spend time enjoying some quiet creative time. Learn to look at fiber and see the differences of quality. Wheels will be provided, as will the opportunity to try different wheel designs to create different yarns.

Scagliola Frame

An introductory class into the 16th century technique of marbled plaster. Form, polish, and finish a frame for a 4x6 inch photo or painting, a perfect holiday gift! This beautiful technique is truly a lost art deserving of revival.

Scagliola Intensive 1

This course is geared to the serious craftsperson. A 3-day intensive that will cover the basics of fabrication, polishing, and finishing. Students will formulate mixes to recreate different marble patterns, while working to bring a panel to partial completion.
